Turkish Society Of Hematology


History

The Turkish Society of Hematology (TSH) was founded by Sedat Tavat, Arif Ismet Çetingil, F. Reimann, Seref Inceman, Orhan N. Ulutin, Ayhan Çavdar, Burhan Say, Nail Tartaroglu and Mustafa Karaca in 1967.

This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Society of Hematology (TSH). The Society, as the only official representative of scientists of hematology in Turkey, boasts a membership of 641 at home and abroad, and is one of the most active and oldest societies in the country.

The Society falls under the auspices of the International Society of Hematology through the European-African Division of ISH. Since 2004, TSH, in association with the European Hematology Association (EHA) and the European Council for Accreditation in Hematology (ECAH), has awarded Continuing Medical Education (CME) accreditation points for participation in scientific and education programs.

The Society’s official web page ( www.thd.org.tr) contains information on TSH awards and grants; latest news regarding hematological malignancies, patient resources, and meetings; and an educational database. The website also consists of a news portal, which posts news to members, as well as a link to the Turkish Journal of Hematology.

Meetings
The society has organized 33 National Congresses with international participation. It has a distinguished 41-year record of organizing Annual Meetings of the highest quality, many of which have accommodated over 1,000 attendees.

In 2007, the Turkish Society of Hematology celebrated the 40 th anniversary of its founding. TSH organized three important and remarkable congresses to commemorate the event.

Plans are underway for an outstanding Annual Congress, “The 34 th National Hematology Congress”, to be held October 8-11, 2008 in Izmir, Turkey with the highest quality scientific content. (for more information, refer to www.hematoloji2008.org).

5th National Bone Marrow Transplantation and Stem Cell Therapies Congress, 5-9 March 2008, Antalya, Turkey
The history of this congress dates back to 1996. The 1 st National Bone Marrow and Peripheral Stem Cell Transplantation Congress was held in Ankara University, Ankara, the 2 nd in 1997 in İstanbul and the 3 rd in 1999 in Mersin, 4 th in 2007 under the auspices of TSH. For the 2008 Congress, TSH has broadened its concept and has planned an outstanding event with the participation of renowned hematologists both from Turkey and abroad. Based on the recent advances in bone marrow transplantation and stem cell therapies, TSH has planned a scientific program that is broad in scope, innovative, and exciting. 2nd International Lymphoma-Leukemia-Myeloma (LLM) Congress , 21-24 May 2009, Istanbul, Turkey
World renowned hematologists specialized in these areas are invited to this congress. TSH aim is to discuss these malignancies and related therapies in all aspects. For more information refer to www.llm2009.org.

Journal
The Society has a peer-reviewed international journal, "Turkish Journal of Hematology", with an International Board. The Journal is the continuation of the "New Istanbul Contribution of Clinical Science" established by Prof. E. Frank in 1951, and is indexed in Excerpta Medica (EMBASE), Scopus, Kopernikus and Chemical Abstracts. Full text of the Journal is available on-line. The Society also supports its members for their publications in journals indexed in Index Medicus.( www.tjh.com.tr)

Database
The society has 3 databases active. Hematology centers could login and fill the information about patients or upgrade them from the database in the Society’s web site.Multiple Myeloma , Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and Lymphoma.

Grants:

The Society promotes hematological research and to support junior, basic, and clinical researchers in the development of their careers. In 2008, TSH has funding programs and grants for:

    • Support of research projects
    • International scientific publications
    • High quality researches submitted in the Annual Congress
