For many years the Turkish Society of Hematology (TSH) and EHA have been collaborating in different projects. On October 31, 2012 a project was added to the list: an EHA Highlights session as part of the annual congress program of the TSH. The lectures were selected by TSH from the EHA annual congress program which was held in June 2012 in Amsterdam.

Part I of the Program was chaired by Dr Teoman Soysal, TSH President together with Dr Robin Foà, EHA past President with presentations on ‘Novel approaches to therapy resistant/relapsed acute lymphoid leukemia’ by Dr Renato Bassan (Italy), ‘Acute myeloid leukemia biology’ by Dr Ruud Delwel (The Netherlands) and ‘Erythrocytosis’ by Dr Mary Frances McMullin (Ireland).

The second part of the program was chaired by Dr Muhit Özcan, TSH past President and Dr Jordi Sierra, EHA treasurer. Dr Carol Moreno (Spain) gave a presentation with the title ‘Allo-SCT in CLL; why, how and when’. This was followed by presentations on ‘Molecular diagnostics in AML’ by Dr David Grimwade (UK) and on ‘Novel diagnostic yools in amyloidosis’ by Dr Giampaolo Merlini (Italy).

 The third and final part of the program was dedicated to the European Hematology Passport and was chaired Dr Hamdi Akan (Turkey), representing TSH in EHA’s Curriculum Linkers Network and Dr Mutlu Arat (Turkey), member of EHA’s Education Committee. The focus of this session was the implementation of the CV Passport in Turkey. This Passport, in its three formats (online, booklet and PDF), is primarily aimed at trainees in hematology, enabling them to view and exploit the revised and harmonized European Hematology Curriculum 2012, endorsed by 27 national societies of hematology including TSH. The 8 sections of the curriculum are divided into subsections and then items, which have boxes next to them indicating the three recommended levels of competence, including the European minimum recommendation level (http://www.ehaweb.org/education-science/online-learning-tools/curriculum-cv-passport/). During the session. Dr Robin Foà presented the history and the content of the passport. Dr Hamdi Akan explained how the passport is used as a basis for training young hematologists in Turkey.
